LCD Soundsystem to release The London Sessions next week

Beyond the element of surprise (it was announced just five days before its release), LCD Soundsystem‘s forthcoming London Sessions are cool for a number of reasons. For one, we all know James Murphy’s outfit kicks ass live and according to an issued press release, this nine-track effort “perfectly captures the intuitive live evolvement of LCD as a band.” As the press release also points out, “fans of LCD Soundsystem will know that radio sessions are something that have never been a staple of the band’s career thus far because of the belief in the necessity to maintain the highest quality of all sonic recordings released into the ether.” So this thing is not only unexpected but also rather unique.

The London Sessions, which will be available on iTunes from November 9th through December 6th, feature “John Peel session style” recordings from one day at the Pool/Miloco Studios in South London on June 29th 2010, in the week following their appearance at this year’s Glastonbury Music Festival. The tracks were subsequently mixed by Murphy in New York at DFA’s Plantain Studio and mastered by his longtime cohort Bob Weston in Chicago.

Of the nine tracks included, material from all three of the band’s studio albums is represented, plus “long lost” b-side “Yr City’s a Sucker”. Find the complete tracklist below.
