British new folk music seems to be unstoppable right now. If you need proof, look no further than Mumford & Sons and Laura Marling. The former recently announced a reissue of their breakout freshman album, Sigh No More, and the latter just put out a single produced by Jack White (which can be streamed now via NME). Both acts got well-deserved nods of respect by being nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize (that makes two for Marling). Oh, and did we mention that Laura and Mumford frontman Marcus Mumford are an item? Could these musicians get any hotter?
The answer is apparently a very loud ‘yes,’ as they have just announced a collaborative EP for a December 7th release on Glassnote Records. Recorded in a makeshift studio in Deli during their 2009 tour through India, the record also features Indian folk collective Dharohar Project. Originally released as an iTunes UK exclusive back in July, the EP will finally find its way Stateside next month.
The four-track effort includes reworked renditions of Marling’s “Devil’s Spoke” and Mumford & Sons’ “To Darkness” crossed with Dharohar’s “Sneh Ko Marg” and “Kripa,” respectively. Keep this all in mind as you’re looking for things to stuff those stockings with (or place next to the menorah) ’round Christmas (Hanukkah).
