Most of the time when a band announces a new album, you have to wait for songs to surface; sometimes those can be bad rips or even from some scummy-looking video shot at a live gig. Thankfully, that’s not the case for the upcoming release from Drive-By Truckers. Their ninth album, Go-Go Boots, won’t drop till February, but the band will be releasing performance videos as a part of “The Go-Go Boots Episodes”. We’ll take this over tagged audio tracks any day.
The first offering for your listening pleasure is “Used To Be A Cop”. No word yet on whether each video will be different, but this one, shot by Jason Thrasher and Patterson Hood, features the band jamming out on stage in particularly moody black and white. As for the track, it sounds as if Dire Straits left England and lived in Georgia for the rest of their music-making lives. Of course, the band have been playing this little ditty live for quite some time, but it’s nice to get something a lot of versions have been lacking: quality.
Stay tuned for more news and updates as they’re announced. Go-Go Boots hit stores February 15th via ATO Records.
