While we originally came across them thanks to the almighty power of RZA, The Kickdrums, once again comprised of NYC-based producer/singer/songwriter Alex Fitts and DJ/producer Matt Penttila, are still a band worth keeping track of, regardless of where their Wu-ometer is at. Don’t believe us? Check out the video for the original version of “Perfect World”. All we can say is karma is a beast, yo.
While their garage rock/hip-hop fusion indicates to us that the band is made up of a couple of decent fellas, this video paints a very different picture. After punching out a street magician for a mystical painting they couldn’t purchase, the band plays on rooftops and in the streets of NYC, framed by the picture and its kaleidoscopic effects. Toward the end of the clip, in something of an ironic twist, the boys find themselves stuck in a painting, now under the control of that magician they gave the old left hook to earlier. Not such a perfect world after all, is it?
Enjoy the video below in its entirety. Stay tuned for more info on the band’s new album, Meet Your Ghost, due out sometime this year.
