On top of being a world-class musician in his own right, Beck is also a pretty masterful producer (not to mention a darn fine remixer). Now we get to see him continue to spread his wings as the quirky artist helps Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore by manning the boards for his upcoming solo LP Benediction.
In an interview with Philadelphia Weekly (via 24B), Moore revealed that the pair — who last worked together on a Yanni cover album for Beck’s Record Club — did most of the album’s recording at Beck’s SoCal home studio. He also noted that the LP will feature Beck singing and playing, but that he really got the most out of Fishtown harpist Mary Lattimore and violinist Samara Lubelski, who lived with Beastie Boy Mike D (who did his own Lykke Ki remix; crazy coincidence!) during the album’s recording. “Samara and Mary both play on it quite extensively and very, very beautifully,” Moore said. “Beck really put them through the paces.” You gots to keep those classical musicians in place, yo.
No word yet on an official release date, but expect Benediction to hit stores sometime in 2011 via Matador.
P.S. For those wondering, the picture comes from a 1994 interview with Beck which Moore conducted for MTV. It definitely beats the one Mr. Hansen did with Rosie a couple years later.
