Caifanes to reunite, play Coachella 2011

Coachella has a good track record of bringing in quality rock en español music, as well as booking rare reunion acts. This year, we can be sure both will happen, because seminal Mexico City rock band Caifanes have announced plans to reunite next April.

Caifanes split 15 years ago, with members continuing to record and tour as Jaguares. Now, evidently, frontman Saúl Hernández and guitarist Alejandro Marcovich have mended their relationship, which means you might see a few more boisterous thirty-something Mexicans at Coachella than usual.

The band’s first show back will be at festival Vive Latino on April 9th. The new website does not specifically mention Coachella; it simply displays the phrase “Indio, CA” — but unless Caifanes are opening for Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood at Stagecoach, you can be pretty sure they’ll be heading up north the weekend following Vive Latino.

The website has a form through which you can sign up for e-mail updates, which may prove useful if you speak Spanish.
