Check Out: Jack Black and Jason Segel – “Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy”

There’s certain holiday songs that strike a chord and forever stay in our hearts as the very sounds of our assorted winter celebrations. Whether it’s John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” or Gene Autry’s “Frosty The Snowman”, pop music makes the season come to life and spending time with loved ones bearable. Well, add another song to the Xmas canon as comedians/actors Jack Black and Jason Segel have teamed up for a rocking rendition of David Bowie and Bing Crosby’s “Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy”. Horns up for little baby Jesus, everyone.

Much like the awkward-yet-amazing meeting between Bowie and Crosby, so too do Black and Segel have a glorious meeting, though this time involving ginger and magic pianos. From a simple, almost touching intro, the “rockification”, as Black calls it, takes over the song, adding in big drums, heavy guitar, and a sense of metal pompousness. However, both men actually have some pipes (Black in particular) and make a fitting cover for a good cause, in this case Blue Star Families, an organization that helps military families.

Oh, and if you’re wondering who was who in the recreation, Black said Segel’s “playing David Bowie’s character; embodying David Bowie’s soul, but I’m singing David Bowie’s melody. He looks like Bowie, but he sounds like Bing and me the vice versa.” And if you understood that, then you’ve got yourself a real Christmas miracle.

You can check out the song along with its equally great video above (via College Humor). The track is also available for purchase through several digital retailers, including iTunes and Amazon.com. All proceeds from the song will benefit Blue Star Families.
