Check Out: Two new Noah and the Whale songs

Seems like we didn’t have to wait too long to hear just what to expect from the lads of Noah and the Whale and their third LP, Last Night On Earth. While the rest of the album could be a right hook from left field, “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.” is a bit of everything from folk to some American rock and roll (via Some Kind of Awesome). Now that’s how you spend the last evening on this rock.

Like a modern-day recalling of some ’80s Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, there’s that big, warm chorus of voices, a steady, unshakable rhythm, a chunky acoustic guitar line, clever lyricism about folks down on their luck (“But you’re a writer/The truth is no big deal”), and some sing-talk vocals that’d make Mr. Petty proud.

Below, you can check out the track along with the band’s confirmed 2011 tour dates. Last Night On Earth hits stores March 2011 via Young & Lost Club.

Update: Just as soon as we reported on one new Noah and the Whale song, here’s another. You can stream the Last Night On Earth track titled “Wild Thing” below.
