Between Titus Andronicus opening for The Pogues and Zakk Wylde wanting to be on Dancing with the Stars, there’s been a lot of strange but true news over the last week. But this one just might take the cake. For the b-side for their new single “January Hymn”, The Decemberists have chosen to cover the Grateful Dead. Specifically the jam legend’s seven-minute number “Row Jimmy”, off their 1973 effort, Wake of the Flood.
Thanks to The Point of Everything, you can now stream both songs below. The “January Hymn” 7″ is available in limited release starting today at participating record stores. Then, on January 18th, the single and The King is Dead‘s other nine tracks will be available via Capitol Records.
