When Biggie and Tupac argued East vs. West in the ’90s, they left out a very important geographical hot spot: big city Minnesota. With Atmosphere, Brother Ali, and the late Eyedea all coming out of the area, the North Star State has proven its hip hop prowess over the years. And if the Twin Cities are the ’90s NYC of the current game, then Doomtree is the Wu-Tang Clan.
The group’s latest project will come from Sims, who has announced that his second full length solo album Bad Time Zoo will be out on February 15th, 2011. The album is the followup to 2005’s critically acclaimed Lights Out Paris. Sims said in a statement that his music “is drawn a lot more from human interaction than music” and that his influences range from Wu-Tang to Bob Dylan. The album is produced by fellow Doomtree member Lazerbeak, who has production credits for P.O.S, Dessa, and Mac Lethal.
The album will be available in both standard and deluxe editions, and will come with an insert of origami paper (so the fans can cut and fold their own animals, of course.) The first single, “Burn It Down”, will be released as a limited edition vinyl 12″ that comes with a download card for the music video and the previously unreleased tracks “Introduce Myself” and “My Go”, which features Slug from Atmosphere. Check out the tracklist below and stay tuned for more news as it’s announced.
