First Aid Kit to release Jack White-produced Blue Series 7″

A venerable cornucopia of artists have taken part in Third Man Records’ Blue Series. In these releases, artists from Wanda Jackson to Laura Marling work with TMR head and renaissance rocker Jack White on a 7″ single that features cover art of the artists in front of a very blue screen (ergo the name of the series). That roster of lucky artists is about to get expanded when First Aid Kit, the Swedish folk-pop duo made up of 17 and 20-year old sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg, release their very own single on January 18th (just a week after their countrymen in Dungen drop their Blue Series single; how convenient!)

The single was recorded in October when the band was busy saving the U.S. while on the road throughout the fall. The release will be comprised of a cover of Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Universal Soldier” and the blues-standard “It Hurts Me Too”. While White helmed the boards, the sisters’ father, Benkt Söderberg, and frequent White-collaborator Jack Lawrence also lent a hand as part of the backing band.

If you can’t wait that long for the 7″, you can also download a set from a recent First Aid Kit show in Sydney, AU here. Once again, the Blue Series 7″ is available through Third Man Records starting January 18th.
