The Chicago boys of Smith Westerns are following up their unabashedly lo-fi self-titled debut with an overall tighter sound. While that sound is undoubtedly the byproduct of recording in an actual studio with actual producer Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, !!!, Beach House), being more succinct doesn’t mean the band won’t hit the road like a bunch of young punks as they play the heck out of the Britpop-influenced Dye It Blonde during an abundance of shows early next year. It’s so awesome to be in your 20s.
Fresh off a European tour with MGMT, Smith Westerns will launch their latest U.S. trek at Brooklyns Glasslands on January 18th, the same date that Fat Possum drops Dye It Blonde. From there, the tour goes damn near everywhere: two dates each in New York, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida; three in Texas and California; and then on to every city from Omaha to Toronto before capping off in DC. Yeah, theyre really pushing this new one hard. Complete details are below.
For an earlier taste of Smith Westerns next effort, the video for the track Weekends can be viewed below. The clip aims to [give] you an idea of what a typical weekend is like for the band in their native Chicago. Apparently that entails smoking lots of cigarettes, eating cheese fries, and cutting down woebegone trees for no apparent reason. Hey, it beats watching reruns of Cops on the G4 network.
