On a wave of positive press and word-of-mouth about their raucous live shows, Those Darlins’ self-titled debut was met with great success in 2009. Now, after months of touring (hard), the quartet (three Darlin ‘sisters’ and a fella on the drums) are ready to release their sophomore effort, Screws Get Loose.
Inspired by the “scars of the highs and lows they’ve soldiered through together on the road,” the record hears a slightly more mature band. Though, according to the press release, they’ll still be as fun and frivolous (see adjacent album cover) as one would expect from the Tennessee troop. The sound has changed slightly as well, borrowing greatly from the dirty rock sounds roaring from Southern garages. Expect a variety of tunes “as far ranging as Spector-like summer girl pop to a fully realized stoner jam.”
The album was recorded in Ed Rawls’ Living Room Studio in Atlanta, GA, again under the guidance of producer Jeff Curtin. Drummer Linwood Regensburg (the fella) takes the reins as songwriter for the first time, as well. A release from Oh Wow Dang is set for March 29th, 2011.
Those Darlins will support the album’s release with another leg of north American tour dates starting February 17th in Fayetteville, NC. Also, if rumors can be trusted, the band might be making an appearance on a certain farm in their home state next summer…
