When Toro y Moi, the recording name for solo artist Chaz Bundick, debuted back in the summer of 2009, everyone caught the chillwave bug pretty badly. Things heated up even more once the Columbia, SC native dropped his debut full length, Causers of This, in early 2010. No sign of a cure appears in sight. In fact, Toro y Moi just announced plans for its sophomore LP, Underneath The Pine, which will arrive February 22nd, 2011 via Carpark Records.
Fan of the electronic music of Causers of This should be ready for a new sound from an artist known for constant musical changes: a record featuring live instrumentation. In fact, the original goal was to drop both LPs in 2010 to show the act’s musical range, but various events caused its delay (although its not as bad as some delays we know). Perhaps as a way to make up for it, Bundick is offering an MP3 of “Still Sound”, which you can check out below (via Spin). The preview paints a picture of a groovier, more funk-driven sound that is sure to make you move.
Song and tracklist can be found below, artwork to your top right. More info as it comes.
