Perhaps it’s only appropriate that on the eve in which we select our favorite music festival of 2010, the late night television circut was the equivalent of a mini-music extravaganza, both in terms of quality and diversity. Sir Paul McCartney headlined the festivities, first chatting with Jimmy Fallon about his first-ever visit to the White House and his Band on the Run reissue, then teaming up with him for a performance of Scrambled Eggs, the never-before-heard original version of “Yesterday”. (It’s as awesome as it sounds.) Macca then concluded his appearance by paying tribute to his friend and former band John Lennon with a rendition of the song “Here Today”, off McCartney’s first post-Lennon album, 1982’s Tug of War.
Sub-headliners She & Him jimmy jangled along to a cover of “I Put a Spell on You” on Conan (CoCo <3’s Screamin’ Jay Hawkins), while Crystal Castles weirded out Kimmel with “Baptism”. And on the up and coming front, folk riser Phosphorescent made a dazzling late night debut on Letterman with a performance of “It’s Hard To Be Humble (When You’re From Alabama)”.
You can watch Macca and J-Fal play “Scrambled Eggs” at the top and the rest of the aforementioned clips are posted below. Update: She & Him also teamed up with Coco for a web exclusive performance of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. You can watch that below as well.
