Arcade Fire and Spike Jonze’s collaboration will extend beyond the music video for “The Suburbs”. As first indicated by the byline that accompanied the video’s release, the Jonze-directed clip is actually part of a short film entitled, Scenes From The Suburbs. Next month, said film will receive its official premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.
“We played Spike some music from the album and the first images that came to his mind had the same feeling as this idea for a science fiction film I had when I was younger. My brother and I and Spike wrote it together, which was really fun– it was like total amateur hour.”
A press release issued by the festival provides little more in the way of details, but does note that Scenes From The Suburbs sees Jonze’s video expanded into a film “without abandoning the structure of a clip. The future has become reality. And the threat lies in the proximity of the military. Memories of a past summer.”
The festival runs from February 10th through the 20th and you can find more details about all scheduled films on berlinale.de.There’s no word on other Scenes From The Suburbs screenings, but we’ll certainly keep you updated.
