In a media climate that seems to cater to buzz bands and 140-character attention spans, it’s often most wise to just get on the wave and ride it wherever it goes. Enter Lykke Li. The 24-year-old songstress and Swede-du-jour just had a single – “Get Some” – remixed by The Beastie Boys’ Mike. D and Beck, and while her sophomore effort, Wounded Rhymes, doesn’t hit shelves until March 1st (via LL Recordings), our friends at Some Kind of Awesome have turned us on to the album’s second single.
“I Follow Rivers” is a nearly four-minute cut that opens with a sequence that is nearly as dreamy as its title suggests. As Ms. Li sings “ Oh I beg you/can I follow,” it seems like she’s actually the one more apt to lead. The song features a vocal that is becoming more and more distinct, production that is simultaneously club-ready and deceptively textured, and a chorus catchy enough to make fans beg that the river in the title leads them to a leak.
