Dashboard Confessionals last release, Alter the Ending, wasnt exactly everyones cup of tea. After all, Chris Carrabba founded the emo project with nothing but his earnest voice and an acoustic guitar, and the highly-produced sixth album disagreed with some fans. His recent tour commemorating the tenth anniversary of Dashboards first album, The Swiss Army Romance, seems to have reconnected Carrabba with his roots, as a new song released on the bands website sounds more like the stripped-down band of yore. The track, entitled A Guardian of Sorts (To Catch You),” can be streamed below as well as downloaded by supplying an email address. Carrabbas rather handsome voice riding over the clever acoustic strums and plucks of a guitar could be exactly the sound some were hoping would prevail over more of their last effort. Though the simple sound is effective, the simple lyrics (“it’s a long way up/to fall all the way down”) might leave something to be desired, sweet as they are.
