Kanye offered our first foray into the mainstream hip hop meets indie buzz band genre when he tapped Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and La Roux for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Now, another notable MC is relying on two of the UK’s most celebrated newcomers for his forthcoming studio album.
In an interview with the BBC, Drake confirmed that he is working with Florence and the Machine leading lady Florence Welch on his sophomore LP, Take Care. The pair collaborated on stage in London last Saturday and according to Drake, Welch joined him in the studio the following night. “We listened to all her new music and I picked which song I really want to get on,” he explained.
Along with Welch, Drake is also collaborating with Jamie Smith (aka Jamie xx, of The xx). The rapper didn’t say what role Smith would have on the album, but did note that “Jamie is probably one of the most exciting producers I’ve ever heard.”
Take Care is tentatively scheduled for release this Spring via Young Money Records. Other rumored collaborators include Q-Tip, DJ Premier, and 9th Wonder.
