Law & Order: SVU is one of NBC’s most popular procedural crime shows in the network’s history. In its time, it’s pulled in cameos and guest stars from across Hollywood, including several big musical stars. Whether it’s Ice-T being cast as a lead detective or Big Boi playing a rapper turned dinner for a hyena, there’s a certain appeal about being confronted by Christopher Meloni’s Elliott Stabler that rock stars can’t deny. Now, throngs of fans have united online to urge the show’s producers to cast The Mountain Goats as guests in an upcoming episode. Gee, someone wants to meet Mariska Hargitay…
Mountain Goats leader John Darnielle first expressed interest in a SVU appearance during a 2009 interview with Vulture: “Still, my strongest hope is for a cameo as a band playing in a club visited by the detectives on Law & Order: SVU during the course of an investigation, maybe during sound check, or something, so they can force us to stop playing while they question the sound guy.” The “Cast The Mountain Goats on Law and Order: SVU” Facebook page hopes to make that dream a reality and already has 1,200 fans as of this afternoon. The page even caught the attention of Darnielle himself, who wrote on Twitter, “if everybody who follows me would click “like” on this, I would MASSIVELY appreciate it, because something’s goin on.” Yeah, something sure is going on. CHUNK CHUNK.
