It’s always a pleasant surprise to hear a 73-year-old sing like she’s 33, so consider Wanda Jackson‘s ongoing reemergence both pleasant and surprising. If Jack White playing guitar is enough to get you to acknowledge her talent, a good deed has been done. So thank Jack, or maybe thank Conan O’Brien for his well-documented love of both White and rockabilly.
Supporting The Party Ain’t Over, her new album of covers on producer White’s Third Man Records, Jackson stopped by Conan to perform her classic 1961 track “Funnel of Love”. And much like their recent performance in Brooklyn, the First Lady of Rockabilly had no problem making the performance all about her, despite White and his Third Man house band occupying plenty of the stage.
As you might expect, O’Brien had to interview White and Jackson after the performance, and it’s worth a peek as well. Jackson details her thoughts on White’s guitar-playing, Amy Winehouse, and Elvis’ kissing ability. O’Brien proved starstruck. Check out clips of the performance above and interview below, both via The Audio Perv.
