A band releasing its album for free isn’t exactly out and out that surprising these days. However, when it’s a group’s full length debut, that’s a little out of the ordinary. Yet, it’s exactly what newcomers Ruby Coast have decided to do. Starting today, their first LP, Whatever This Is, will be available for free download via Bandcamp. What do they want in return? Just for you to spread the word to all you know!
Ruby Coast began back in 2006 when three small town friends, Justice McLellan, Keith Bradford, and Corey Marshall, of Aurora and Newmarket, ON met. The band released and sold out their debut EP, Projectable Collections, in 2008. They followed this up by opening for a whole bunch of high-name indie acts, including Passion Pit, Tokyo Police Club, Born Ruffians, and Ra Ra Riot. Taking this momentum forward, they holed up in Montreal’s Hotel 2 Tango studio with producers Howard Billerman (Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat) and Brian Paulson (Beck, Wilco).
On top of the free LP, you can also check out the band on tour in Canada starting in March. Full dates below.
