After spending the past six years kicking ass as frontman of The Gaslight Anthem, Brian Fallon will spend 2011 under a new moniker. Meet The Horrible Crowes; consisting of Fallon and Ian Perkins, the band is currently knee-deep in the process of writing and demo-ing songs with the intent to release a studio record and embark on a tour later this year.
In a post on his blog, Fallon says the side project will hear greater experimentation and exploration than his past efforts with The Gaslight Anthem. He describes the material as “night time music,” referring to it as “if Tom Waits, The National, The Afghan Whigs, Bon Iver, and Nick Cave made a band with Percy Sledge.”
Gaslight fans fearing disharmony within the ranks need not worry. Fallon noted that he received his bandmates’ blessings to pursue other musical interests, also remarking that The Gaslight Anthem plans to return to the studio this Fall to record the follow-up to last year’s American Slang.
Fans can maintain updates on The Horrible Crowes via Fallon’s aforementioned blog and their official Facebook page.
