Mind you, it’s only January 3rd, but I submit to you what will likely prove to be the most unlikely collaboration of 2011. Spinner reports that Dave Sitek — best known for his work as a member of TV on the Radio and more recently, his solo project, Maximum Balloon — will play bass on Jane’s Addiction‘s forthcoming studio album.
Details remain limited, but according to the band, Sitek will also help write the currently untitled followup to 2003’s Strays. However, due to demands of his other projects, Sitek is not expected to tour with the band in support of the record.
Of course, Sitek serves as the latest high-profile musician to contribute his talents to the Perry Farrell-led outfit. Former Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan had been playing with the band during their 2010 engagements, but departed last September to focus on other projects.
There’s no ETA for Jane’s Addiction fourth LP, but Rich Costey (Franz Ferdinand, Muse) is listed as producer. More details as they become available.
