Watch: Okkervil River debut new song, album title on Fallon

Earlier this year at a solo show in NYC, Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff debuted some new tunes that were a-tumbling around in his head, which he said at the time may or may not become proper Okkervil River songs. But last night on Fallon, the band broke open a piñata of new treats, including the title for their forthcoming album, the release date, and a brand new song featuring A.C. Newman from The New Pornographers, a small string section, ?uestlove augmenting the drums, all couched in a power pop waltz that’s one mighty strong foot forward. Check out “Wake and Be Fine” above.

Of equal if not greater excitement, via Jimmy Fallon’s introduction, Okkervil River will be releasing their 6th LP I Am Very Far May 10th, 2011. As far as album announcements go, there’s little else we have on this now other than “Wake and Be Fine” is a welcome return for the band, and the cover art appears to be two lupine-looking fellows facing each other — kinda like something Shepard Fairey might do.

Of equal if not less excitement, Will Sheff looks like a hand full of aces with that beard.
