The members of Widespread Panic may be starting to get up there in age a bit, but it sure hasn’t seemed to decrease their energy and urge to jam out. Following an album release last summer, coupled with summer and fall tours, the legendary jam crew have announced yet another tour, this time for the Spring.
Starting April 1st in Louisville, KY, the tour is a relatively minor outing, with most of the gigs relegated to the South and Southeast. Fans in Alabama have particular reason to be happy, as the band will finally be making a stop back in the Heart of Dixie after almost a decade with an April 16th performance in Pelham. (Coincidentally, they’ll once again be playing the Oak Mountain Ampitheater, which just so happens to be the setting for their live DVD, Live at Oak Mountain.)
Also worth noting is the possibility that this may be one of the final opportunities to see Widespread Panic in the near future. In a September 2010 Q&A with Vanderbilt University’s InsideVandy.com, keyboardist Jojo Herman revealed that band celebrate their 25th anniversary by taking a hiatus in 2012. So, get ’em while they’re hot, Spreadheads.
