The New Orleans rapper who goes by many names but most notably Lil Wayne just dropped a Green Bay Packers hype track ahead of their match-up with the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday in Super Bowl XLV (via Rap-Up). “Green & Yellow”, which, unless Weezy is working on some serious next level prescient shit, was recorded in the last couple days or so and is currently the front runner for the best song of 2011.
Lil Wayne showed his true colors earlier this week in an interview with ESPN the Magazine where he said, among other things, “I love the Green Bay Packers,” and that love is poured all over this track. With rhymes like “Big cheese on the helmet/Steel Curtain/what is that, velvet?” and, “We gon toast these niggas/Pop Tarts”, it’s clear that Weezy has found the pulse of the nation and is speaking as the de facto poet laureate for a country who needs it more than ever. Like Dylan and Springsteen before him, Mr. Carter just punched his ticket into the annals of the American Pop Music canon, forever to be revered.
We should probably just call the whole year right now and hand Tunechi the Song of the Year trophy right now, just like the Packers are about to be handed the Vince Lombardi trophy this Sunday. Download the track below:
[Editor’s Note: Jeremy’s bias for this song may be directly related to him being a pretty big Packers fan.]
