Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – “Desert Song”

Followers and fans of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros no doubt know about, SALVO! the “12-part feature-length movie musical” that began to materialize with the release of their breakout album, Up From Below in 2009.  The film is being released in music video segments, and each part continues into the next.  “Desert Song” is the first part of that film, followed by “Kisses Over Babylon” and the just-released “40 Day Dream“.

The opening footage is of singer Alex Ebert’s father chanting in Monument Valley – shot by his mother. Desert Song is about Alex’s reckoning with the middle name his father secretly wrote on his birth certificate – a Native American name which means ‘Devil’ or ‘Demon’.
