Back in 1986, Elvis Costello came up with a pretty novel concept: design a massive game show-like spinning wheel filled with 40 track names and let fans become part of the concert playlist process. At the time, Costello had about 10 albums, and chose to fill the wheel with well-known tracks, rarities, and covers. Now, 25 years and 22 albums later, he’s dusting off “The Spectacular Spinning Songbook” for a 10-date May tour.
According to Paste, the wheel still contains 40 songs, but you’ll have to attend a show to see what tracks Costello and his backing band The Imposters have in mind this go-around. The Revolver Tour begins on the West Coast on May 7th, and after just one Midwest performance in Chicago, the tour wraps up with five stops in the Northeast, including Boston and New York City’s Beacon Theater.
