The only bad thing about signing Lady Gaga and Elton John up to duet on the first performance of an annual awards show is that you’ve got to somehow top that the next year. Thankfully, the folks at the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences seem up to the task.
Music News Daily is reporting that Eminem and Dr. Dre are rumored to kick off the 53rd edition of the Grammy awards by performing “I Need A Doctor” from one of the most anticipated albums of the year, Detox. They’ve cited an “insider,” who said that Eminem will also perform a single off Recovery – which was the best selling album of 2010 – and that the duet “could be one of the most memorable Grammy moments of all time if everything goes to plan.”
While speculating on a performance like that is all good and well, a few other notable performances have been confirmed as well. Complex has revealed that Drake and S&M aficionado, Rihanna, are going to have a stab at “What’s My Name?” from Loud, and that Cee-Lo and Gwyneth Paltrow will attempt to rekindle the magic they created on Saturday Night Live two weeks ago.
Other confirmed acts include Justin Beiber (who will perform with Jaden Smith and Usher), Lady Gaga, Muse, Arcade Fire, Katy Perry, Lady Antebellum, and a special presentation from Bruno Mars, B.o.B. and Janelle Monae. So whether or not you actually watch it all go down on February 13th, you can bet that we’ll have our eyes peeled and, as always, will have a recap ready the very next morning.
