Marrying the lead singer of indie giants Death Cab For Cutie, singing songs at baseball games with him, releasing a second She & Him album with M. Ward. There were plenty of signs to suggest that Zooey Deschanel was hanging the acting hat up for good, but then the doe-eyed darling does something like this as if to say, Au contraire, mon frère.
Deadline.com is reporting that the 31-year-old singer/actress has signed on to star in a Fox pilot for a single-camera comedy tentatively titled Chicks and Dicks, and while shes been rumored to have been in negotiations for the Liz Merriwether-produced television show since last week, this news makes Deschanels return to the screen official. She recently made appearances on Bones (which stars her sister, Emily), starred in My Idiot Brother, and was reportedly looking into taking a spot on NBCs The Office, but her role on Chicks makes her the main character of the show.
She is set to play Jessica an optimistic but unlucky in love elementary school teacher who, after her most recent break-up, moved out of her apartment with her ex and moves in with three juvenile guys and for her part, Deschanel seems psyched. Excited to be working on a rad Fox pilot with Liz Meriwether, she said in a Twitter message, Im pretty darn lucky! While some of her fans may feel unlucky about not being able to hear her sing for a while, her googly-eyed admirers are no doubt pleased to be able to see her on their television screens again.
