“If there’s a burning in your heart,” Ben Gibbard warns, “don’t be alarmed.” Over bass lines that once belonged to The Cure and guitar patterns that nibble and sway, Death Cab for Cutie sound just as assured in 2011 as they did back in 2008, when they had us climbing some Narrow Stairs. On the first single, “You Are a Tourist”, the Bellingham, WA indie rockers take full advantage of the empty aural pockets and inject some substance. It’s not as punchy as “Soul Meets Body” or “I Will Possess Your Heart”, both lead-in singles in their respected times, but this does get us rather nostalgic for the boys. It also convinces us that all the time spent last year in the studio really paid off. Check it out below, courtesy of 107.7 The End.

Codes and Keys hits streets May 31st (via Atlantic). Check out the band on their highly intimate tour.
