The world may still be anxiously waiting for that new Soundgarden album, but 107.7 The End has given us something somewhat new to hold us over until then. Streaming on their website is a live version of the Seattle grunge kings 1994 hit, Black Hole Sun, which is set to appear on the bands forthcoming live album, Live On I-5.
The set, which features takes from the bands 1996 west coast tour, will be released on March 22nd and features 17 tracks, including live versions of Spoonman, Rusty Cage, and the legendary take on Jesus Christ Pose that was recorded at an Oakland, Calif. stop in December 96. Also featured on Live are covers of The Beatles Helter Skelter and The Stooges Search & Destroy.
Seattle, Wash.-based producer/engineer Adam Kasper is the man responsible for recording the tracks, and according to SPIN, he’ll also oversee the band’s upcoming album of new material, which they plan to begin tracking as soon as next week. Knowing that Chris Cornell & co. will be in the studio is good news, the not-so-good news is that fans may be waiting a while to hear new music.
Were putting the music first, Cornell told SPIN, the process of writing, recording, and being creative together is the most important thing, not meeting a deadline its not like were going to go into the studio and come out when were finished with the album. He added that hell be hitting the road for a solo acoustic tour in the spring and that there might be hope for hearing brand-new tunes sooner than we think. [Soundgarden] plan on playing shows for sure thats never been in question, he said. Then we have some time [to] get back in the studio.
