After revealing plans to reunite and record a new album late last year, Garbage has been mum on the details for their first new music since 2005’s Bleed Like Me. Now, though, the iconic alt-rock band are slowly revealing more definitive plans. But instead of teasing a single or playing a show, the band is leaving the reins of the hype parade to frontwoman Shirley Manson, who has released a new song called “The Hunger”, which you can check out below.
The tune originates from the soundtrack for the political rock musical Prometheus Unbound, which is written by Tony Award-winner Steven Sater with music by System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian (via PlayBill.com). Manson, who wrote on her Facebook page about her friendship with Tankian, recorded the song, which features reworked lyrics by Sater and instrumentals by Tankian, in order to raise money for Amnesty International. As its origins might suggest, the track is a sweeping epic that piggybacks off the rock sound and gives plenty of room for Manson’s trademark haunting vocal stylings. Manson’s work on “The Hunger” seems to have given her an appetite for more. In another Facebook note from last week (via MySpace Music News), Manson wrote, “Back in the studio as of yesterday with the boys…..We are getting up a nice head of steam as we really start to hone in and select tracks for the final collection………Dare I suggest we will have something finished by the summer?!?!?!?!” As always, we’ll let you know as soon as we do.
