Here’s a shock: Jack White is doing something strange and unique. The former White Stripes leader turned Raconteurs guitarist/Dead Weather drummer/Third Man Records CEO/inventor/NPR interviewee/lover of auctioneers has announced plans for the Third Man Records Rolling Record Store. As the above video notes, 97% of high school aged kids have never been to a stand alone record store (you wouldn’t know that by RSD ’11, btw). So White and his Nashville-based label will soon hit the road to sell Third Man Records releases from their rolling yellow truck. According to the video’s YouTube description, a stop at next week’s South by Southwest in Austin, TX will be among the destinations. The label’s Twitter also adds: “If you’re wondering if the Rolling Record Store will eventually make it to your town, venue, festival, house, hiding spot..the answer is YES.” Hopefully Jack is a fan of E-ZPass.
Update: An issued press release confirms that the truck will be present at SXSW from March 16-20, where it will sell special edition tri-color vinyl and other goodies. The truck will also host musical performances thanks to the two turntables, microphone, and sound system built within.
