In the latest documentary from Joriah Goad, the focus is placed on Tyler Bowen, a man dealing with the familiar pressure to join the working-class American life rather than pursue his interests. That isn’t the focus of this film though. Instead, it deals with Bowen’s strained relationship with his mother, who he hasn’t spoken to in five years. Through fate or chance, he received a letter from her around the same time the first segment of the documentary wrapped up. What followed was a phone conversation with his mother three weeks after the video was complete. Samples from that conversation provided the backing audio, creating a stunning, intimate look at how relationships form, break, and bend.
