Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie announces U.S. tour

As usual, Coachella fans have clamored incessantly for late additions this year. While Goldenvoice has little incentive to make any major changes, it’s hard to argue the latest move isn’t at least solid. As part of a spring tour, Gord Downie, lead singer of the royal-in-Canada, unknown-in-America alternative rock band The Tragically Hip, will play the third night of the sold-out annual mega-fest.

Downie joins part-time tourmates and fellow Ontarians on the Sunday bill, which falls in the center of a month-long U.S. tour. Beginning March 22nd, the tour sees Downie play the El Rey in Los Angeles (already sold out) before skipping to the other giant markets in Chicago and New York, where City and Colour will headline. Following that, Downie has four West Coast dates scheduled in April, including a spot at Coachella, which he’ll follow by skipping around the country a little more. Keep in mind that the final show is April 30th at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.

The tour is in support of Downie’s new Chris Walla-produced solo album, The Grand Bounce, out March 22nd on Cobraside. Go here for ticket information, and peep the itinerary below.
