In this edition of Audiography, I continue my conversation with David Hood.
In the early ’70s, Muscle Shoals saw an influx of musicians more closely associated with pop or rock. Artists such as Paul Simon, Rod Stewart and Bob Seger were drawn to Muscle Shoals in hopes of capturing a bit of that sound for their own recordings.
In this episode, David Hood recollects the initial sessions with Paul Simon that led to Kodachrome and the somewhat backwards way of recording Loves Me Like a Rock. In addition to Simon, Hood has some funny words for Simons former partner, Art Garfunkel.
We also talk about how an engineers mistake became the intro to one of rocks most recognized songs (before Tom Cruise strutted around in his tighty-whities) as well as Rod Stewarts initial reluctance to work with the band when he first met them.
