Scoring a ticket is one thing, but figuring out your entire schedule in just two days is entirely different beast. That’s the chore attendees of this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival have in front of them, as the daily set times for this year’s bill have been revealed some 51 hours before the first act hits the stage (Alf Alpha has the honors this year). So what do we got?
Friday sees everyone’s favorite headliners, Kings of Leon, go on at 9:55 pm PST, which means they won’t actually be closing out the main stage — the legendary Chemical Brothers will instead have the honors. As for the conflicts, pending her ability to not pull a Sly Stone, Ms. Lauryn Hill will play opposite The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and The Black Keys face off against Cut Copy. Also, Cee-Lo, Warpaint, The Morning Benders, and Odd Future will all be playing the same time, which brings reminders of Bonnaroo’s epic Saturday night conflict in 2009.
Arcade Fire will close down Saturday, after being proceeded by Animal Collective, Mumford & Sons, Bright Eyes, Broken Social Scene, and Erykah Badu on the mainstage. The Outdoor Theatre is also pretty epic as it’ll feature the likes of Empire of the Sun, the reunited Big Audio Dynamite, The Kills, The New Pornographers, and Delta Spirit. Pick your favorite and camp! The conflicts are also less of a factor on Saturday: Wire vs. One Day as a Lion? Ouch. Animal Collective vs. The Swell Season? Hmm.
The final day of Coachella features an epic last three hours as the Strokes, PJ Harvey, and Kanye West will take turns closing out the festival. Unfortunately, this might also be the day with the most amount of overlap. Duran Duran goes against The National and Trentemøller, and Death From Above 1979 will face off against Best Coast and Fistful of Mercy. The Strokes begin 20 minutes after Chromeo, who takes the Outdoor Theatre stage only 10 minutes after Ratatat begins their set at Mojave, and Harvey will play opposite Leftfield. Good luck figuring all of that out.
