Around the beginning of this decade and continuing up to the present day, nerd culture has entered the mainstream like never before. Need proof? Just watch the video for Goldfish‘s “We Come Together.” Directed by Mike Scott, it opens with the classic logo from the Sega Genesis system and explodes with endless pop culture references from there both more and less obscure. Plenty of nerd moments here should be recognized by all. The video includes Stormtrooper helmets, Adventure Time, Meowth from Pokemon, everyone’s favorite speedster, Sonic the Hedgehog, Grand Theft Auto, Pac Man, Hello Kitty, Darth Vader, Angry Birds, and every cat meme ever. If you don’t know at least one of those references, you’ve been living under a rock. Come out and join the party!
