Memorial Day is meant to be the holiday in which we do without the grand gestures associated with other holidays, like stuffing our faces, decorating our homes and yards with over-sized representations of capitalist deities like Santa Claus, and exchanging gifts we neither need or want (unless it’s a Nintendo 3Ds). But when it comes right down to it, Memorial Day is just another excuse to have a day off in the early dawning of summer and to sleep in and, once more, fill our faces with the dead, burned flesh of animals. If you are the type, however, to get all noble and stoic, then bless your heart. Either way, you’re going to need some tunes to help orchestrate your weekend. This week’s Friday Mixtape features new songs from Iceage, Ganglians, Stephin Merritt, Teen Daze, and many more. Plus, weve packed in a load of fresh remixes and covers, the latter of which comes compliments of our friends at Cover Me. Scroll even further down the page and youll also find mp3s from up and comers you just might want to check out. Now kick off your Memorial Day the right way. Oh, and save us a hot dog, please.
