Brendan Benson reissues Lapalco

Brendan Benson‘s second album, Lapalco, may have taken more than six years to be released, but its lo-fi pop charm was well worth the wait. Calling the experience a “momento” to the drafty old house he recorded it in in his native Detroit, the singer is reisussing the album nine years later, now fully mastered and available with a slew of b-sides and demos. Bonus material includes a cover of Paul McCartney’s “Let Me Roll It” with his Raconteurs bandmate Jack White and the previously unreleased “Maybe So Hard”. The album is available as a digital download and limited edition vinyl via Benson’s website.

In addition to the reissue, the singer has been working on his fifth full-length album at Welcome to 1979 studios in Nashville, TN. Among the musicians joining him in the studio are Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer of Big Star and The Poise and Brad Pemberton of Ryan Adams and The Cardinals. Benson is self-producing the album, which has yet to be titled or given a release date. More news on that effort as it’s announced.
