Update: Spotify launches in the U.S. today

Spotify is finally here! The European music service that allows users the ability to stream millions of songs from their computers and mobile devices went live in America this morning (July 14th) at 8:00 AM EDT.

The initial launch is limited to those who purchase an ‘unlimited’ or ‘premium’ account. An ‘unlimited’ account is priced at $4.99 a month and offers unlimited streaming, higher-bit rate tracks, and no advertisements. A premium account, which is priced at $9.99 a month, includes all of the ‘unlimited’ features as well as the ability to access an account on a mobile device.

Spotfiy will also offer a free, ad-supported service that includes up to 20 hours of streaming per month for the first six months. After that, the limit drops to 10 hours per month and five plays per song. Currently, the free service is invite-only, but interested users can sign up for an invitation, which will be distributed within the next few weeks.
