Every now and then, a band brings a musical sub-genre up from the crowded pond and breathes in new life. Wavves are to surf-rock as Fitz and The Tantrums are to soul-pop. The L.A. rockers led by Michael Fitzpatrick made a breakthrough with their single Moneygrabber off of their Pickin’ Up the Pieces debut, and now theyre breaking out onto the road with a healthy dose of end-of-the-year tour dates.
Theyll perform at the Silopanna Music Festival in Annapolis before the month is out, but the tour proper kicks off September 2nd in Del Mar as part of the citys Summer Concert Series. Fitz and his kicking and screaming bandmates are actually somewhat festival darlings, as theyll stop at ACL for both a fest set and an aftershow, in addition to Voodoo, Bumbershoot, and even some non-indie-centric events like Telluride Blues & Brews and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. The group wraps things up with a two-night stint at Chicagos Metro on November 19th and 20th.
