The Roots replace bassist Owen Biddle with Mark Kelly

With a permanent fixture on late night and plans for a new LP before year’s end, The Roots remain white hot. But according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Owen Biddle thinks now is good time to end his four-year run as the band’s bassist. Biddle, who joined The Roots following the departure of longtime bassist Leonard Hubbard Jr., will now focus on his “art-jazz-rock-funk” project, Mister Barrington.

Replacing Biddle will be Mark Kelly, a classically trained musician from Houston, TX. He will begin his new gig once Jimmy Fallon returns from his ongoing summer vacation this coming Monday. And right off the bat, he’ll be collaborating with some pretty exciting names; Neon Indian and Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks are both scheduled to appear as musical guests this week.

Below, we have video of Kelly and Meshell Ndegeocello covering Prince’s “Lady Cab Driver”.
