If there’s anything to take away from all the Nirvana hoopla as of late, it’s this: Everyone who screams into a mic or plays a guitar these days loves Nevermind. From giant-sized reissues to star-studded townhall meetings, and from jam-packed covers compilations to homages from Scott Weiland and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Nevermind has apparently redefined music for artists the world over. But of all the acts of praise and tribute, this next one is the most involved: On October 1st, members of Tokyo Police Club, Fucked Up, Woodhands, Gallows, and a slew of other outfits will cover the album’s groundbreaking single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, 144 times in a row. And you can count on that.
According to Exclaim!, A Brief History Of Rebellion, as the event is being called, will be hosted by media production-collective-thing-turned-record-label Juicebox and goes down from dusk to dawn at the Toronto Underground Cinema. The various bands involved will each have one or two members swing by for a couple rounds during 12-plus-hour event.
