There are many types of geeks out there: youve got your comic geeks (thatd be me), your D&D geeks, video game geeks, music geeks (thatd be us), and the whole lot. When two of a geeks pleasures find themselves intertwined, its the definition of geekgasm. Enter chiptune rockers I Fight Dragons, a band built for those of us who still gush over how badass the original Contra was on NES.
With two EPs, including last years Welcome To The Breakdown, under their belts, I Fight Dragons are finally set to unveil their debut full length. The onomatopoeically titled Kaboom! is set for an October 25th release from Photo Finish/Atlantic. Produced by Matt Mahaffey (Beck, Tenacious D), the album was created not only with traditional rock elements, but also by using old video game soundcards – hence the term chiptune.
You can sample two examples of their style on their website, where theyre streaming the title track (with the distinct sound of Samus from Metroid going into her morph ball) and The Geeks Will Inherit The Earth (listen for the classic coin sound from Mario). In addition, you can check out the band when they join the Yo Gabba Gabba! crew on four September tour stops (side note: I Fight Dragons uses Nintendo controls as live instruments. Awesomeness). Complete tour information and the Kaboom! tracklist are below.
