Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV debuts at #1

Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV just toppled the throne in more ways than one. According to Billboard, the New Orleans-bred emcee’s latest LP sold 964,000 copies in its first week, easily giving him his third number one album. What’s more, Tha Carter IV proved the biggest sales week for a hip-hop album, or any set by a male artist for that matter, since his own 2008 record, Tha Carter III. For context, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne sold 436,000 copies in its first week. Also, the 345,000 digitial copies sold on iTunes destroyed the record only recently set by Watch The Throne (290,000). And to think, most of us have no idea what the hell he’s talking about 90% of the time.
