As arguably The Who‘s most important album, it’s only appropriate that 1973’s rock opera epic Quadrophenia receives the super epic box set treatment. Now, said giant-sized release has been further detailed, and Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut proves to be a true bounty of Who music and archival material.
Due November 15th, the set spans five discs and nearly 60 tracks. Discs one and two are comprised of the newly remastered album. Discs three and four are a collection of 25 demos from Pete Townshend’s archives, including five songs not on the album that portray the original version of the Quadrophenia concept. Disc five is The Quadrophenia 5.1, an eight-track DVD remixed for surround sound. Then, as a pièce de résistance, the effort also contains a replica 7″ of the hit single “5.15” b/w “Water”.
Along with loads of music, the box set also comes with all the prerequisite bonus material, including tons of photos and memorabilia. The deluxe 100-page hard-back book features a 13,000-word essay by Townshend that sheds light on the band during the album’s recording. In addition, there’s also a track-by-track guide to the demos and some more insight with studio diary entries.
Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut will also be available on double vinyl, as a mini-deluxe digi-pack edition, and digitial. Right below, you can watch a commerical for the box set. The complete tracklist is after that.
