Kurt Cobain didn’t rise from the dead, but the second and final night of Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary music festival still managed to be as spectacular as the first. Temple of the Dog reunited again, The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas guested on “Red Mosquito”, The Swell Season’s Glen Hansard joined the band for “Smile”, Mudhoney played along to “Sonic Reducer”, Eddie Vedder debuted a new song, and the finale featured a star-studded cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World”. And that was just Pearl Jam’s headlining set.
Earlier in the day, Casablancas joined Queens of the Stone Age for “Sick Sick Sick”, and Vedder played cowbell on “Little Sister”. An hour later, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme returned the favor by teaming up with The Strokes for “New York City Cops”. Damn.
